Pico Terramar & Spa is located in Areia Larga, a village on the coast of Pico Island, in the transition between the town of Madalena and the parish of Criação Velha. Historically, it was one of the preferred summer resorts for the upper crust of Faial and Pico Island, and there were several manor houses there, owned by families linked to the Pico wine trade, particularly Verdelho.

There is a set of rock formations of volcanic origin, often used for sea bathing, located close to one of the oldest ports on the island of Pico, Porto da Areia Larga , a port that served as an alternative to Cais da Madalena, when the bad state of the sea required it.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Verdelho wine producers created the habit of building summer houses there, a fact that gives the town its very own atmosphere.
